April 1881:
“Here’s a little contemporary info about Tombstone badges” City Ordinance No.2. Section 9: The Chief of Police and every regular policeman shall each wear a hat or cap, such as the Board of Police Commissioners shall require, with his number and words “Tombstone Police” inscribed thereon, and also wear on his left breast, on the outside of his coat, as an emblem of his office, a shield or star with the word “Police” inscribed thereon.
