The Tombstone at Twilight committee has announced KGUN9 news anchor Guy Atchley as the Guest of Honor for the November 28 event. It will be the third time the popular media personality and noted photographer has been selected for that honor.
“Guy Atchley does so much to promote Tombstone that we invited him back again to show our appreciation,” explains Patricia Moreno, councilwoman and Tombstone Forward member. “He spends a lot of time in town and through his incredible photo-graphs he captures the heart and soul of what Tombstone is about.”
Tombstone at Twilight is celebrated on the fourth Saturday of every month to draw tourists and residents to the historic district during evening hours. Activities kick off at 5:00 pm in front of the Visitor Center on the corner of Allen Street and 4th. “I first loved Tombstone because of its many colorful characters, and now a lot of those characters are good friends,” says Atchley. “To be invited for Tombstone at Twilight presents another great opportunity to see my friends — and take their pictures.”
Several activities are planned for the event, including the premiere of a three-act skit by the Blood at Dusk Gunfighters. According to show director Chris Douglas, this month’s performance is titled The Grinch Stole Tombstone’s Christmas until the Earps Saved It.
“Our inspiration for the new skit comes from local history and the Dr. Seuss holiday classic,” explained Douglas. “We’re excited to be part of the Twilight activities and look forward to performing for everyone on Allen Street.”
Act 1 begins at 5:15 pm on Allen Street between 5th and 6th, followed by Act 2 at 5:45 pm in front of Big Nose Kate’s. The final act begins at 6:15 pm in front of the OK Corral.
Immediately following Act 1 there will be a Pie Smash fundraiser for the Tombstone Food Bank outside the Visitor Center. High bidders will be able to target the fire chief, a councilmember and others with a pie in the face. The food bank will also be collecting non-perishable food items appropriate for Christmas meal baskets.
Between 5:30-7:30 pm, Randy Davis will host a shooting competition at his Big Iron Shooting Galley located at 510 Allen St. Three categories (men, ladies, and kids 12 and under) will compete by aiming a period-correct single action .45 caliber Long Colt at paper targets. There is no entry fee, and all competitors must use the firearms and ammo provided by the Gallery. The winner of each category will be based on whose target had the most shots closest to the center cross-mark. Winners receive a $25 Fry’s gift card.
In addition to our regular street buskers, the Cameo Ladies will sing a parody holiday song followed by a street dance at the Visitor Center with firefighters serving as DJs.
With Christmas only weeks away the two dozen small businesses that open on Twilight are a great source for unique holiday gifts. Shoppers who make qualifying purchases at participating merchants are eligible for a raffle drawing of three donated  prizes.
The Vigilettes will be set up at 513 Allen Street to collect new, unwrapped toys as part of their annual Christmas Present Drive. Everyone who donates a gift will receive a coupon for $1.00 off a hot chocolate at Tombstone Sweet Memories.
The Twilight Committee is selling special raffle tickets for an 1883 Morgan Silver dollar that was minted during the time period that Tombstone silver was in use. Tickets are $2.00 and only 200 will be sold. Tickets for the Silver Dollar raffle can be purchased in advance at many Tombstone businesses or at the Visitor Center during Twilight. The winner will be  announced at 8:00 pm on Twilight night and need not be present to win.
Live entertainment will be offered around town, including at 4 Deuces Saloon and Crystal Palace. Wild County will be at Big Nose Kate’s and Doc Holliday’s Saloon has karaoke.
Those arriving prior to the Twilight activities can take in a special 4:30pm show at the Gunfight Palace (524 Allen St). Discount coupons for that show can be found at Sister Paranormal, Tombstone Sweet Memories, and OK Café starting at 2:30 pm.
